About the Collection

This site serves as a location to record and share parts of my personal collection. I love collecting ancient coins along with more modern coins that strike my fancy. As I have time and can get acceptable images, I’ll continue to add other parts of my collection.

I’m not a professional photographer and will update photos as I improve my setup. I’m also not a professional numismatist, so if coins are misattributed please feel free to send me the correct reference attribution.

——————————————-The Journey——————————————-

I began collecting coins when I was young and tinkered on and off over the years. However, once I discovered the world of ancient coin collecting I was hooked. My first goal was to assemble the “Five Good Emperors” - a very achievable goal that I often recommend to new collectors. Good quality pieces can be acquired for reasonable prices. Following that, I decided my focus would be from the Julio-Claudians through the Crisis of the Third Century.

My first task was to acquire an acceptable piece of each emperor for a reasonable price. The obverse bust is the most important element to me and you’ll see this reflected in the collection, where I’ve selected a coin that may have a poor reverse or broken flan - but has excellent bust detail. I also decided to exclude very expensive emperors (Gordian I, II, etc) so I could focus on completing the majority. I’ve largely completed this goal and now acquire “replacements” if they have better character than the original.

Over time I also branched into Greek and Seleukid coins. I highly enjoy the artistry from Sicily and I find Seleukid tetradrachms to be gorgeous.

——————————————-Modern Coins——————————————-

Outside of ancients, I also collect some more modern coins. I’m not a huge fan of slabbed coins (and go out of my way to break ancients out if they come graded) and the overall hyper focus on cleaned, MS, etc is something I don’t enjoy. I don’t intend to post most of my modern collection here, but I do post ones I find interesting.

One area of modern coins I go out of my way to collect are toned Morgan silver dollars. I don’t have any interest in what mints they are from, if they are MS, etc. If they look attractive and have good luster I’ll add them to the collection. I’ve also begun dabbling in early American coinage such as Fugio cents and colonial coppers.
